During the first quarter 2008 NVIDIA officially present new platforms integrated chipset for AMD Socket AM2 and Socket AM2 +, equipped for primaa time video subsystem with support API DirectX 10 derived from the family of desktop solutions GeForce 8. The chipset, as indicated by the name MCP78S, integrate support technology PureVideo HD, which will be able to delegate some of the GPU operations required for the reproduction of video streams high definition, sgravando this CPU mounted in the system.Hybrid technology SLI, another new NVIDIA implemented in this new series of chipsets, allows us to match the integrated graphics subsystem with a dedicated video card on PCI Express connection, provided of course that it is equipped with NVIDIA GPU, similarly to what happens with a traditional SLI configuration where they are combined two identical video cards. In this case the purpose is to use the GPU dedicated only when actually required by the type of application, so it put into operation without rebooting the system when you run a game.
Hybrid SLI has two different modes of operation called Power Saving Mode and Max Performance Mode. As can be seen easily by names, in the first case we have a situation where the power consumption is reduced to a minimum thanks to the decommissioning of GPU video card mounted on PCI Express, with the integrated graphics chip used to manage the video signal minimizing consumption.
In the second case we will see the graphic integrated core assist the GPU for increased performance, as happens with traditional SLI technology, in which case the contribution of secondary GPU will be predominant than provided by the GPU integrated chipset, since these components are typically less powerful way to balance simplicity with the consumption of operation and the needs of a chip inside.
